ABOUT US

Frome Art Society was founded 1979 by Charles and Vera Appleyard and their friend Charles Hopkins.

They wanted to encourage local people to get involved in learning about, making and appreciating art.

Today, the Society continues to work towards those
aims and more, by:

  • promoting appreciation and enjoyment of a wide range of visual arts

  • encouraging participation in the making of art

  • organising opportunities for learning and practising creative skills

  • facilitating connections and conversations between members

Our programme of events includes practical workshops, talks and demonstrations, exhibitions, outdoor painting days, and a Friday drop-in creative session.

Members can enjoy all of these activities, while talks and demonstrations are open to anyone interested.

Workshops

During Spring and Autumn, we hold monthly workshops led by practising artists. These offer opportunities to learn about and try new techniques/media.

Exhibitions

The Society holds two exhibitions annually — one in Spring and one in Autumn.

Outdoor
Painting Days

We organise regular outdoor painting days during the Summer months. These take place at a variety of stunning locations, both private and public.

Talks and Demos

During Autumn and Winter, we organise a monthly programme of talks and demonstrations.

Friday Art Club

The Friday Art club meets weekly throughout the year. These sessions give members the opportunity to come together to work independently, meet other artists and share ideas.
